A Message from the CEO

I'd like everyone to experience the joy and excitement that games can bring. I have held this hope since I was a student, and hold it to this day as a game creator. I realized early on that this dream could not be realized without the right kind of people. I knew that a strong framework would be required In order to gather those people - so I formed a company. From there I could achieve a great many things, and build trust and form the bonds necessary for this undertaking. I began to see that it was indeed possible to realize my dream. Thus, Vanguard was established in 1993 as a vehicle for realizing this dream. A place where quality people could gather and achieve this dream. The Vanguard Corporate Philosophy is as follows: For the joy of our players, and the happiness of everyone, we create new experiences. This philosophy will be passed on for years to come. Getting this far was not easy. The road was long and full of challenges. There were at least three occasions where I doubted our very survival as a company. During those times, we received support from our many players and clients. It was thanks to that support that we were able to overcome those trying times, and are able to continue making games today. In overcoming those difficulties, we have learned some invaluable lessons. We learned to be true to our philosophy. We learned to communicate and work together with our colleagues. We learned the importance of preparing for a number of situations. This is why we must always remain humble as well as thankful, and always remember the fundamentals of our business. These fundamental ideas and sentiments are compiled in this booklet. I now have two new goals. Bringing the joy of games to people all over the world and, Making Vanguard a strong company that will last at least 200 years. We will create games that are played, enjoyed, and anticipated all over the world. And we will make sure that Vanguard can continue creating those games for another 100 - 200 years. We will make this dream a reality. We can do it. It begins now! Vanguard will be a company respected by people from all over the world. Company President and CEO, Tomonori Sugiyama
